The case team

The Team tab is the access list for one matter: firm members on it, external grants, client accounts, ethical walls — and, deliberately, everyone at the firm who is not on it.

Firm members on this matter

A firm role sets the ceiling. The assignment decides whether it applies here at all. There is no separate role to pick when you add someone: their firm role decides what they can do once inside.

Each person on the roster shows what their assignment actually carries:

  • Reads the file
  • Writes to the file
  • Approves AI output
  • Releases to the client
  • Manages the roster

Adding a colleague

Add to the matter → A colleague. Pick the person, optionally record why (second-chairing the depositions), and add them.

The conflict check runs against the firm’s parties before anyone is added, and the lead attorney is notified either way — including when a firm owner or administrator adds themselves. That notice is what stops “manages access” from quietly becoming “has access”.

If nobody is left to add, everyone eligible is already on the matter or walled off from it.

Removing someone

Remove from the matter. Access ends on their next request, not at their next sign-in.

Removing someone does not remove what they did. Their name stays on every entry, approval and audit line they created, with the role they held at the time.

Not on this matter

The interesting half of an access list. It counts the firm members with no access row at all — for whom this matter does not appear in any list, count or search.

Administering the firm is not the same as being on a matter, and this panel is where that becomes visible.

An ethical wall is a different thing again: a deny that beats every role, lifted by a recorded waiver rather than by adding somebody back. See Ethical walls.
