Releasing and revoking
Releasing a document
Release to the client on a document, from the Documents tab. One document at a time — there is no bulk release.
The dialog asks for two decisions:
Allow download. Off means view-only, which is a real share — the client can read it, they just cannot take a copy.
Watermark with their name and the date. Applied to what they open and to what they download.
What it does
The document appears in the client’s portal. The client is notified and can open it from that moment. Nothing else on the matter is shared by this.
This leaves the firm. Revoking later stops future access — it cannot recall what has already been read.
What cannot be released
Work product and privileged documents never leave the firm. The release button refuses, and says so.
A document that is not on this matter cannot be released from it either.
Revoking
Revoke on the released ledger, on the Client tab. A reason is required.
Future access stops immediately, in every session. Anything the client has already opened or downloaded stays with them.
Revoked entries stay on the ledger, marked Revoked, with who revoked them and when.
Release and withdrawal interact
A document that has been released cannot be withdrawn from the matter. Revoke the release first.
Flagging a released document as privileged does not recall it either. Revoke it separately.
Phase changes release nothing
Advancing a matter’s phase re-evaluates what the client is allowed to see and releases nothing. That stays one deliberate click by the lead. Reverting a phase never un-shares what was already shared.
