Glossary
Alert — a development the analysis judged urgent enough to surface on its own. New, acknowledged, dismissed or resolved.
Arrival — a record that the same file reached the firm again, from another custodian or by another route. Several arrivals, one stored object.
Case access — the computed answer to whether you can open a matter, and what you can do on it. Recomputed whenever a grant, wall or role changes.
Case file — everything filed on a matter.
Client account — a portal-only account belonging to a matter. Reads what has been released and never the case record.
Coverage — what an analysis run was allowed to read, and what was withheld from it and why.
Development — something the analysis judged material since the last run.
Disclosure / release — the record that a specific document was made available to the client. The portal reads these rows and nothing else.
Draft — an unfinished intake. Visible only to its creator. A lead, not a case.
Ethical wall — a deny that removes a matter from one person entirely. Beats every role, including the firm owner’s.
Evidence gap — something the analysis expected on the file and could not find, with a suggested way to get it.
Evidence list — the indexed set of facts a run’s stages cite into. A citation resolves back to the fact, the document and the page.
External grant — access for someone outside the firm to named documents on one matter, with a mandatory expiry.
Fact — a proposition an attorney recorded. Handed to every later run; a locked one is treated as settled.
Firm role — the ceiling on what you are capable of. Eight of them.
Incremental run — a run that reuses the stages nothing changed under.
Lead attorney — exactly one per matter. The only person who may release anything to the client.
Legal hold — a freeze on deletion of a matter and everything under it. Set by an attorney or the owner; lifted only by the owner.
Materiality — how much a development matters: critical, high, moderate, low, informational.
Matter — a case. The unit of work.
Metadata-only access — you can see that a matter exists and manage its roster; you cannot read the file. The firm-administrator position.
Party — an entity the firm knows, attached to matters in roles. It exists once and carries its history across matters.
Phase — where the litigation stands. Investigation, discovery, expert reports, mediation, trial.
Retention — how long after closing a matter is kept. Outranked by a legal hold.
Run — one execution of the analysis. Produces a numbered version.
Stage — one step of a run. Nine of them, each writing its own row.
Step-up — being asked for your password again at the moment of an irreversible act.
Strength — the score out of 100 the analysis puts on a matter, overall and in nine other categories.
Version — a numbered analysis result. Never overwritten.
Withdrawn — taken off a matter without being destroyed. Restorable.
Work product — the firm’s own analysis. Never retrieved by the AI, never released.
