Tasks

Tasks

A task belongs to a matter. Only the title is required.

Where a task comes from

Source
Added by handSomebody created it.
From a templateRaised by a rule.
From intakeCreated when the matter was opened.
From the analysisA recommended action somebody turned into a task.

Fields

Title, detail, kind (filing, discovery, review, evidence, client, court, internal), priority (low, normal, high, critical), assignee, start and due dates, and critical deadline.

A critical deadline pins the task to the top of every board in the firm and cannot be muted. It needs a date.

Status

To do · In progress · Blocked · Done · Cancelled.

Marking a task blocked asks what it is blocked on, and that reason shows on the task until it is unblocked.

Dependencies

A task can be waiting on other tasks and blocking others. The board refuses to create a cycle, and refuses to close a task whose prerequisites are still open.

The timeline layout draws the links and flags any that run backwards — a prerequisite is due after the work waiting on it.

Four layouts

Table — sortable columns, bulk selection.

Board — kanban by status, drag between columns.

Calendar — by due date, month at a time. Tasks with no date are counted below rather than dropped silently.

Timeline — bars from start to due, at day, week, month or quarter zoom. Drag a bar to reschedule it, or its edges to change when the work starts and ends.

Views

The built-in views: My work, Board, Overdue, This week, Unassigned, Calendar, Timeline.

Save view keeps the filters, sort and layout exactly as they are on screen, with a scope:

  • Just me — nobody else sees it.
  • This matter — everyone on the matter, on this matter’s board only.
  • The firm — everyone at the firm. They still only see their own work.

Make default decides which view opens first.

Grouping, filters and bulk edits

Group by any field. Filter to open only, overdue, or mine. Search by title. Select rows to change status, priority or assignee in bulk, or to delete — deleting takes the dependency links with it and cannot be undone.

A board that says showing the first 200 is truncated. Narrow the filters to get a complete answer rather than reading a partial one as the total.

Closed matters

The matter’s status carries. A closed matter’s tasks are read-only for every role.
