Privilege and sensitivity
Four flags, two of which change what the system itself will do with the document.
Privileged
Withheld from production and from AI retrieval. Its text is never retrieved, never quoted in an analysis, and never produced.
Setting the flag asks for a basis for the privilege claim — for example, attorney-client, advice sought from counsel on the termination. That text is kept with the document.
Work product
The firm’s own analysis. Withheld from AI retrieval, and never reaches an outside grant.
Contains PHI
Health information. Every open of the document is logged.
Contains PII
Personal information about an identifiable person.
What the flags actually enforce
Privilege and work product are hardcoded exclusions, not permission checkboxes. No role, no grant, no plan and no setting anywhere in the product turns them on for the analysis. A firm owner cannot make the engine read a privileged document.
Concretely, while either flag stands:
- the document’s text is not retrievable, so no stage of an analysis can quote it;
- it cannot be released to the client — the release button refuses;
- it is never included in the document list an external grant can reach;
- it counts under Withheld in the analysis coverage panel.
Changing a flag later
Editing a document to add a flag tells you plainly: this will be withheld from the AI. Its text stops being retrievable and stops reaching anyone outside the firm.
Removing a flag says the opposite: this will be readable by the AI. Nothing changes until you save; saving is what makes it eligible.
A copy already released to the client cannot be recalled by flagging the document. Revoke that release separately — and even revoking cannot recall what has already been read.

- Flags column and the sensitivity filters on the document list.
- Handle with care on the document detail sheet, spelling out what the flag is currently doing.
- Withheld in the analysis coverage panel, with the reason.
- The bulk editor, where each flag is a three-way control: leave, set, or clear.
