People and invitations

Firm members

The roster shows every member with their role, how many matters they are on, how many they lead, whether they can approve AI output, their state, and their last session.

A role here is the ceiling. None of it reaches a matter until they are assigned to one.

Inviting a colleague

Invite sends a link to a work email. It expires in seven days, and joining through it verifies the address.

The roles you can hand out from this screen: firm admin, attorney, paralegal, staff, billing.

Clients and outside experts are not invited here. A client belongs to a matter; an outsider gets a scoped grant with an expiry. Both are created through the case.

Waiting on an answer lists open invitations with who sent each and when it expires. Cancel withdraws one.

Changing a role

Manage member → Role. Nobody may change their own role: being able to raise your own would make every other permission in the product decorative.

Your firm may require your password again before this takes effect — see Authentication.

Deactivating a member

Deactivate ends their access to the firm. It is reversible with Restore access, though not by them.

Two refusals you may hit:

  • They still lead at least one matter. Transfer the lead first. A case cannot be left without a lead attorney, even for an afternoon.
  • A firm cannot be left without an owner.

A deactivated member is never deleted. Their name stays on every approval, release and audit line they created, with the role they held at the time.

The other panels on this tab

External access, across every matter — every outstanding grant, the number of documents it reaches, and which are expiring. Created from the matter, never from here.

Client accounts — portal-only accounts, counted separately from members because a client reads a released list and never the case record.

Ethical walls — every wall in place, as person — matter, with who set it and when. Set from the matter it applies to. See Ethical walls.

Recent access changes — invitations, case grants, walls and deactivations, sorted by time.

Recent access changes is not the audit log. It is the four access-affecting writes this screen records, and nothing else.
