The firm
Firm Settings carries the rules that apply to every matter. Your own credentials and preferences live on Your account.
Firm owners and firm administrators can open it. Everyone else is told the screen exists and cannot open it: your role does not include changing firm-wide rules or the roster.
Firm identity
Firm name — how the firm reads everywhere.
Main jurisdiction
Matter types — every kind of matter the firm takes. These lead the list on a new case, above every other type. At least one must stay selected.
Retention (years) — how long after closing a matter stays before it becomes eligible for deletion. The clock starts at close.
A legal hold outranks retention. A held matter is never deleted, whatever this setting says.
Record — the workspace slug and the date the firm was opened. Read-only.
Opening another firm
Open a new firm in the workspace switcher creates a separate firm with its own cases, members and retention. Nothing is shared with the firms you are already in, and you become its owner.
You will not be able to approve AI output or release anything until a bar number is recorded on your account.
